Archives & LibraryThe Clan Donald Library is housed in one wing of the Museum building. With over 7000 books it has one of the best reference collections in northwest Scotland. Covering all aspects of Scottish culture and history, the library specialises in Highland history, clan genealogies and family history. Collections also include 17th and 18th century material on the Jacobites as well as an extensive range of antiquarian and modern maps relating to Skye and the Highlands. Visitors to Armadale are welcome to make use of the library during their visit, which also houses archive collections including Lord Macdonald’s Estate Papers, charters and land grants, rent lists, correspondence, estate maps and financial accounts. These papers provide a framework for local history and genealogy research, particularly for Skye and North Uist. A charge is made for consulting this archive, which contributes towards the cost of conserving and developing it. Direct Telephone number for the Museum - 01599 534454 |
